Recognizing Signs

You can make a difference in someone’s life by noticing the warning signs of sexual harassment and abusive relationships, and helping them connect to applicable support resources. Below are a few warning signs of sexual harassment or abuse.

Some warning signs may include:

  • Increased signs of depression and/or anxiety
  • Excessive worry or fearfulness
  • Increase in unexplained health problems such as stomach aches and headaches
  • Withdrawing from relationships
  • Change in hygiene or self-care
  • Self-harm such as cutting or burning
  • Changes in eating and other every-day habits
  • Failing grades or withdrawing from classes
  • Avoidance of situations or people that were once pursued
  • Comments about a partner exhibiting controlling behaviors
