LDS Business College and Philanthropies hosted the annual Stella Harris Oaks Luncheon Friday.
The event recognizes student recipients of the Stella Harris Oaks Horizons of Hope Single Parent Scholarship at the College.
This particular scholarship is named after the mother of President Dallin H. Oaks of the First Presidency. Sister Stella Harris Oaks raised three children as a single parent after her husband died.
So far this year, there have been 21 student recipients of the scholarship.
Two students, introduced by LDS Business College Vice President of Administration and Operations Mark Richards spoke at the luncheon, expressing heartfelt thanks for the opportunity they each have had to develop and refine employable skills to support their families.
President Bruce C. Kusch also addressed those gathered to thank the generous donors and scholarship endowment supporters, and pay tribute to LDS Business College single-parent students.
Evelyn Moody concluded the event speaking about his mother’s determination in overcoming challenges and the hardships associated with being a single parent.
Music for the event was provided by the Harvest Valley Quartet, with a special musical number by the BC Voices.
