    It can be helpful to talk to someone about your concerns. As we talk, our perspective on the problem can begin to change. Some benefits from attending therapy and doing the work include increased understanding about yourself, being supported in making changes in your life, discovering strengths, getting “unstuck,” and increased coping skills.

    Who is eligible for counseling?

    All Ensign College students currently enrolled for classes are eligible for counseling. You may also attend counseling if you are taking a vacation semester (or it’s a break between semesters) but are planning on registering or already registered for the next semester.

    How confidential are therapy appointments?
    How confidential are therapy appointments?

    Counselors are legally and ethically bound to maintain confidentiality regarding the things you share in counseling. Information may only be released to school officials, friends, parents, or professors with your written permission (this includes the Honor Code Office and Title IX Office). However, there are exceptions to confidentiality, including being a danger to yourself or others, suspicion of child abuse or elderly abuse, or responding to a valid court order.

    What can I expect when I schedule an appointment?

    When you schedule a first-time therapy appointment, you will be provided with information to fill out paperwork online before your appointment. In the first appointment, the counselor will get to know you and your situation by asking various questions and listening to your answers. As you talk, you will work together with the counselor to develop a plan moving forward.

    Generally, students are able to schedule an appointment within a week.

    Counseling Services provides short-term, brief therapy. If you require more extensive therapy, your counselor will discuss other treatment options with you.
