Each year, the Silicon Slopes Summit gathers tech entrepreneurs and business leaders from across Utah to learn and connect with each other. The 2023 event took place just a few steps away from Ensign College, at the Delta Center, on September 27 and 28. Prominent speakers included Tony Robbins, Gary Vaynerchuck (GaryVee), and the CEOs of ESPN, Netflix, Yahoo, Delta, and more.
Ensign College had a booth at the event, both to make connections with potential employers and to recruit students and instructors. Students and employees greeted people and talked about our programs and unique learning signature. Our college is known for developing qualified employees who are valuable assets to companies. Being present at the summit reinforced Ensign’s commitment to building bridges between students and potential employers.
The school also provided tickets to more than 100 students and employees, who used the opportunity to get inspired by the speakers, learn about different companies, and network with employers. With students in tech, entrepreneurship, business, and digital media programs, Ensign College is a perfect fit for the Silicon Slopes Summit. We were also happy to find a few Ensign alumni working at the event for their companies.
In addition to networking opportunities, one of the highlights of the event was the presence of Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He was invited to speak on some of the operating aspects of the Church, as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the biggest employers in Utah and uses technology to reach its global membership. He called attention to the importance of seeking a better education and finding creative ways to learn. “Learn how to love learning,” he said, “so when you don’t know what to do, you can still figure it out.” His words reflect the principles of a successful life. Ensign College reflects those principles as a place where students can prepare themselves by appreciating study, hands-on learning, and innovation.
An Ensign College student film crew asked many of the companies’ representatives present at the Silicon Slopes Summit what they value the most when hiring. They highlighted the importance of proactivity and a “go and do” attitude. According to them, that always adds a powerful advantage to a prospective employee’s résumé. Another valuable piece of advice they offered is to make sure your LinkedIn profile reflects your qualifications and experience. Companies often rely on your profile to learn about potential employees and connect with them.
