Satisfactory Academic Progress

< Back to Financial Aid View Full Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

A student receiving federal aid (Pell grants and Direct Loans) must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
  • SAP Requirements:

    • Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.0
    • Pace (Aggregate Completion Rate) of at least 67%
    • Max Time Frame to Earn a Degree – Finish your degree within 150%

Students who fail to maintain the above requirements will lose federal financial aid eligibility.

  • Cumulative GPA

A student on federal financial aid must maintain a minimum 2.0 CGPA.

Transfer credit does not count toward the CGPA.

  • Pace (% Completion)

The pace is a measure of a student’s progress toward graduation.

A financial aid student must complete at least 67% of all credits attempted at Ensign College.

  • Max Time Frame

A student must complete a degree within 150% of the credit hours required for the degree or certificate.

Please refer to the catalog year of your program to see the total number of credits and multiply this number by 1.5 to find when you will hit the 150% mark.

Transfer credits accepted by the college towards your program count in this calculation.
  • SAP Calculation and Status

SAP is calculated at the end of each term after grades are finalized.

     SAP status options are:

    • Meet
    • Warn
    • Disqualified
    • Probation
  • Reinstatement & Appeals Process

If a student experiences extenuating or unusual circumstances such as accidents, illness, death of a loved one, etc., they can appeal to request reinstatement of eligibility.

For instructions on how to appeal and what needs to be submitted, view the complete Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy.
