With an accounting certificate or associate degree, you will have a solid foundation of basic accounting skills that can qualify you for an entry-level job as a bookkeeper or help you manage a small business.
With a bachelor's degree, you can qualify for a broader range of accounting careers. At Ensign College, bachelor's degree students prepare for one of two certification exams:
- Certified Management Accountant: Work in corporate financial accounting and strategic management
- Enrolled Agent: Qualifies you to help clients with taxes, with access to tools not available to other types of tax preparers

Want to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)?
With additional education or certification, an accounting degree will allow you to work in the areas of public accounting or corporate accounting. In Utah, a master’s degree is required to become a CPA.

Accounting certificate: Gain the the entry-level knowledge to manage a computerized accounting system. This includes basic financial transactions, QuickBooks, journal entries, financial statements, subsidiary ledgers, charts and accounts, reconciliations and receivables, and automated general ledgers.
Business Management - Accounting bachelor's degree: Build upon the Accounting Certificate to develop industry-recognized skills and certifications. These include Robotic Process Automation, Advanced Excel, Tableau, Alteryx, and Quickbooks. Choose from two industry certifications: CMA (Certified Management Accountant) or EA (Enrolled Agent). You'll graduate ready to go directly to work or continue toward an advanced degree.
