Utah Promise Program Grant

The Utah Promise Scholarship is a statewide scholarship program that expands access to higher education opportunities to all Utahs by providing scholarships to students who demonstrate financial need.

  • Eligibility

    • Recipients must be a resident of Utah
    • Be enrolled at an eligible institution (Ensign College fulfills this requirement).
    • Demonstrate financial need (usually by completing the FAFSA), and
    • Accept all other aid sources.
    • Maintain and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress

  • Award Amounts
  • Amount varies – but can help cover the cost of attendance for up to two years.

    This last-dollar grant may be reduced or canceled if additional aid is issued to the student after it is applied to the recipient’s account.

  • Application Process
  • Beginning with the Spring 2023 semester, an online application will be available for students to apply for this state aid program.

    Deadline: TBA

    Students must also complete a FAFSA prior to applying for the grant.
  • Award Duration
  • When a student is awarded the Promise Grant, as long as the student meets the qualifications, the Promise Grant will continue until the earlier of either:
    • Two years after the initial grant; or
    • A recipient uses the grant to attend an institution for four semesters.
  • Grant Transferability
  • A recipient may transfer to another institution and retain the eligibility for the grant if they continue to meet the qualifications at the institution to which they are transferring.

    It is the student’s responsibility to inform the financial aid office at the new institution about their grant.

  • Program Fund Availability
  • Program funds are limited, and are subject to change.








  • Continued Eligibility
    • Recipients must remain a resident of Utah
    • Remain enrolled at an eligible institution (Ensign College fulfills this requirement).
    • Continue to demonstrate financial need (usually by completing the FAFSA), and
    • Accept all other aid sources.
    • Maintain and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress
