All degree-seeking students are required to complete an internship before they graduate from Ensign College. Students in online programs administered by BYU Pathway have three options: a traditional job or internship, a project-based internship with classmates, or a community service internship. See the tabs below for more information on each type of internship.

This option gives you real-world experience in career management. It will allow you to make meaningful professional connections and begin working in your target career now.

3. You must complete at least 70 hours of work for 7 consecutive weeks of internship work.
Overview
Work on a team with classmates (typically around 5 students) to complete a project for a real company. These projects often expose you to a higher level of professional activity and contacts than entry-level positions. This unpaid internship offers you and your team the chance to create real solutions for companies, often leading to future job opportunities.
Preparation
This scenario requires students to collaborate in real time with other students and companies. Begin now by establishing a workspace that will allow you to focus and meet with others virtually.
Requirements
- Apply now for a project assignment. Be prepared to submit a résumé.
- You will meet regularly (at least weekly) with your team and company sponsor throughout the semester, taking into account everyone's time zones.
- You must have a strong and reliable internet connection to handle regular conference calls and virtual collaboration.
- You will need a workspace where you can work without distractions from others.
Please Note:
- You will not be paid for your work. You will receive elective credit.
- Participating in a project does not guarantee a future job or internship.
Overview
Create your own internship project by developing relationships with your community, using the skills you’ve developed in your program to provide a solution for an identified need. This option is available ONLY if jobs in your industry are difficult to find in your area or if internet connectivity is a challenge.
Preparation
This scenario requires significant preparation to complete. You should contact community leaders immediately and identify needs for potential projects.
Requirements
- Work with a community leader to identify needs and develop a potential project to execute
- Complete a project using the skills gained in your program
- Your project proposal will be approved by your instructor in the first week of class
- Complete a minimum of 70 hours of work to complete your project
