Denice Lingen

Dean of General Studies

BIO

Denice Lingen has served as the Dean of General Studies at Ensign College since June 2022. Previously, she served as the Department Chair of General Education and the Math Courses Supervisor.

A passion for teaching math brought Denice to Ensign College in 2014. She has taught courses in Beginning Algebra through Calculus, including Statistics and Quantitative Literacy, and has also done significant work in course design and maintenance. Under her leadership, the math department made significant changes to accommodate the necessary courses for new BAS degrees.

In her role as Dean of General Studies, Denice is responsible for implementing strategic initiatives, supporting and hiring full-time and adjunct faculty, and all operational needs within the General Education and Professional Services areas. She and her team oversee training efforts for faculty members, and additionally she bears primary responsibility for implementation of Ensign College’s College-Wide Capabilities.

Earning her master’s degree in Instructional Design and Educational Technology in 2011, Denice also has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with an emphasis in Scientific Computing and a minor in German, both from the University of Utah. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics and Educational Leadership from Utah State University.

Denice has served in various Church leadership positions in the Young Women, Primary, Relief Society, and Sunday School. Some of her favorite callings were Gospel Doctrine teacher, youth Sunday School teacher, Young Women’s camp director, Relief Society first counselor, and Primary chorister. She currently serves as a member of the Relief Society activities committee in her ward.

Denice is married to Pieter Lingen who is a Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Specialist, teaching drama at a local elementary school. Denice and Pieter are the parents of four children, ranging in age from 18 to 27. She loves digital photography and scrapbooking, as well as recording memories. She has a deep love for all things German, including the language, country, and people. She hopes to serve a mission with her husband one day when they are “all grown up.”
