Ensign College Celebrates Five Years of Growth and Change

September 2025 marked five years since LDS Business College became Ensign College. Along with the name change came other big steps forward, including new Bachelor of Applied Science degrees and a partnership with BYU-Pathway Worldwide. To celebrate, the college hosted two events last week that highlighted these changes and their impact on students.

In preparation, the building received fresh updates. Hallways now feature inspiring art by Church artists and quotes from students about their programs and how Ensign has influenced their lives.

VIP Night

On Thursday evening, artists, sponsors, and key supporters gathered for a special program. Speakers included Elder Clark G. Gilbert, Commissioner of the Church Educational System, President Bruce C. Kusch, and several students.

President Kusch reflected on the past five years. “The work of Ensign College today has been perfectly choreographed by the Lord and has been according to His timing,” he said. He added, “There is something that has not changed and will never change: it is our commitment to a one-by-one effort to help, strengthen, and educate each and every student who comes to our campus, and the thousands unseen that we serve around the globe through our relationship with BYU-Pathway Worldwide.”

Student speakers shared how the changes have blessed their lives. International student Schekina Boumba said, “I found a place where I could belong, grow, and be prepared for the future. But the fact that students like me can now begin here and finish here with a bachelor’s degree…represents an opportunity for students to stay rooted in an environment where faith, learning, and personal growth go hand in hand while still achieving the higher credential that opens doors around the world.”

Communications student Katherine McCullough added, “Each day here, I am reminded of my purpose—not just to succeed academically, but to prepare spiritually for the work that lies ahead. Through the example of my professors, the counsel of my leaders, and the camaraderie of my fellow students from all around the world, I am learning how to live as a disciple of Christ.”

Open House for the Public

On Friday, the celebration opened to the public. Visitors toured the building and met students on each floor. Many said the highlight of the event was hearing student stories.

Visitor Dan Greer said, “I’m impressed with the students, their testimonies of the importance and their value of their education and their desire to grow.”

Another guest added, “This college has a very spiritual feel to it; you can feel the power just by walking around campus. The student body all have incredible stories and come from all over the world. That spirit is synergizing, and everybody is growing, learning and developing together as well as being focused on Christ, so it’s pretty powerful.”

Looking Ahead

Over two days, students and leaders shared how Ensign has helped them reach their goals, build confidence, and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. The open house was a reminder of how far the college has come since its name change—and how much more lies ahead.

As President Kusch and others reminded guests, the past five years are only the beginning. With faith as its foundation and a growing global reach, Ensign College is committed to preparing students who are ready to influence the world, one life at a time.
