Hazing

Our Commitment

At Ensign College, we believe every student is a beloved child of God. Our goal is to create a campus where students can grow spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically.

Hazing goes against everything we stand for. It involves any act that harms a student’s body or mind during group initiation, affiliation, or membership. It directly violates the values of the Church Educational System Honor Code and does not belong at Ensign College.

We are committed to building a culture of safety, dignity, and belonging. Hazing in any form is strictly prohibited. We invite all students, faculty, and staff to help prevent and report hazing wherever it occurs.

See the Clery Report page for more information

What is Hazing?

Hazing is any intentional, knowing, or reckless act—whether carried out by individuals or groups—that:

  • Occurs during the initiation into, affiliation with, or ongoing membership in a student organization (such as a team, club, or group), and
  • Causes or creates a risk—beyond the normal risks of participation in the university or organization—of physical or psychological harm, regardless of the person’s willingness to participate.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Forced consumption of food, alcohol, or substances
  • Physical abuse or restraint
  • Sleep deprivation or exposure to extreme elements
  • Humiliation, intimidation, or coercive behavior

Prevention & Education

Ensign College provides hazing prevention and awareness programming to help students recognize, reject, and report hazing. These efforts include:

To request a hazing prevention presentation for your group or unit, contact the Clery Coordinator at dbrooksby@ensign.edu.

Bystander Intervention

Everyone at Ensign College has a role in keeping our campus safe. If you see something, say something—and if you can do so safely, take action. You can:

  • Interrupt the behavior if it is safe to do so
  • Redirect the situation by changing the subject or suggesting another activity
  • Support those who may be at risk and offer to help them leave
  • Report the incident through the appropriate channels

Be the reason someone feels safe and valued—not silenced or harmed.

How to Report Hazing

If you witness or experience hazing, we encourage you to speak up. You may report hazing through any of the following:

Ensign College investigates all reports in accordance with college policies and applicable law. Retaliation against individuals who report hazing in good faith is strictly prohibited.
